Randon R. Anderson

Quick Facts

Randon started his surveying career with CISD Marine in 2022, where he was initially onboarded for a temporary position to support during an unprecedented surge in operations following the relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions worldwide. He has a background in international logistics and operations, where he worked in fundamental roles for companies like Maersk and DHL. Randon attended Texas A & M University at Galveston, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Administration. Randon brings determination and commitment to CISD Marine, with a focus on providing the best service to our customers.

How did you become a marine surveyor and what initially interested you?

Even during my maritime administration studies at Texas A&M University at Galveston, marine surveying was a role I heard about sometimes but didn't fully grasp. My focus initially leaned towards managerial positions. However, when an opportunity arose to apply for a marine surveyor role, I saw the perfect blend I was looking for: dynamic fieldwork coupled with essential administrative tasks. This balance has proven to be incredibly rewarding.

What do you enjoy about the job responsibilities?

Being a Marine Surveyor means I get to be on-site, acting as the crucial 'eyes and ears' for our customers. I get to dive deep into understanding cargo conditions and then strategize the optimal path forward. The constant variety is fantastic – a new vessel means a new challenge to solve, which keeps the job incredibly exciting day after day. However, I think the ultimate reward is delivering that solid reassurance to our customers once their cargo is surveyed, and they have all the clear information they need. It's a truly satisfying aspect of the work.

What keeps you at CISD Marine versus another surveying company?

One of the things I truly appreciate about CISD Marine is how supportive and flexible the team is. It's a fantastic environment where everyone genuinely wants to see you succeed. With decades of company experience, there are always incredible learning opportunities and chances to grow. You're never short of amazing colleagues who are ready to lend a hand and help everyone succeed.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career/most rewarding/validating job?

There have been a few extra challenging jobs that I have run across in my time with CISD Marine. The one that stands out most for me is when we had a series of vessels that came in with damaged wire rod coils, while simultaneously keeping up with the demand of other jobs during that same time. We had to quickly identify the damaged coils to set aside and come up with an estimate of how many were damaged as they were discharging. In summary, there were several hundred coils that had to be claimed across multiple vessels. I worked with management to make sure that all damaged pieces were segregated, quantified, demonstrated, and ultimately, minimizing the claim for our customer.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I spend a lot of my time reading, staying active, and with family. Other times I try my hand at golf for fun, frequenting restaurants in the area, and relaxing at home.
